What – More Exams
Although not every firm will require you to requalify in the state you are working in, it is perceived as a way to enhance your marketability. Most lawyers who work in the USA will sit the relevant requalification exams.
The most popular is the New York State Bar exams. These are administered twice a year in February and July. They comprise a series of essays, lengthy multiple choice questions and assigned tasks which test you on topics ranging from Contracts law, Criminal law, Property law, Constitutional law, Evidence, Torts, Conflict of Law, Trusts and Professional Responsibility, to name a few. They are widely known as being onerous and time intensive in terms of the lead up preparation, and are also expensive. Some firms may assist you financially and in other respects.
