It is one of the largest economies in the world, known for its rich culture, beautiful historic sites, flourishing arts and theatre, not to mention the thriving pub culture. Its proximity to Europe and Africa is another attraction for keen travellers.

What is the cost of living

The cost of living in England especially in London can be high compared to other parts of the world, however as in any other large developed city, this will depend on the places you frequent.

British food does not have a good reputation overseas. However, there is in fact a very wide variety of food available (both traditional British food and international cuisine), especially in the bigger cities. The cost of transportation in England can be expensive as fuel costs are high and train fares are more expensive compared to Australia however the tube is quite reasonable.

Rental prices can also be significant in London however this depends on the location. A two bedroom apartment in Mayfair may range from 500 pounds per week. The equivalent in Kensington, Bayswater and White Chapel may cost from 400 pounds per week and up.

What is the weather like

England is not known for its warm weather conditions. January to February is generally cold and wet with temperatures ranging from 2 to 7 degrees Celsius and not much sunlight. The warmer season is between June and August with temperatures ranging from 14 to 26 degrees Celcius. July seems to be the most pleasant month and can actually feel like a true summer.
