What Is It Like
The Middle East sits where Africa, Asia and Europe meet which include growing economies such as Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These countries are known to have strong financial hubs. The UAE comprises seven emirates (states) with Dubai being one of them.
Dubai City is the fastest growing in the world, literally! Shiny new skyscrapers and buildings are being constructed out of thin air and it has the only seven star hotel in the world. Dubai has become world famous place for its innovative real estate projects, sports events, and conferences due to the UAE’s thriving petroleum and gas business.
Abu Dhabi houses the seat of government. To some, it may lack the flashiness and exorbitance of Dubai however it appeals to those seeking more of a family-oriented lifestyle.
Muscat on the other hand is equivalent to Dubai five to ten years ago. It has retained its old world charm however has the potential to grow into a thriving, bustling centre like Dubai in the future.
What is the cost of living
The overall cost of living in Middle East is not so expensive and is very comparable to Western European living.
Basic day to day grocery costs are average although alcohol is expensive and can only be bought in hotel bars and clubs or if you have a license for your own home. Local food and small restaurants are also very reasonable. Taxis however are expensive. Utilities are cheaper than in most European countries however, at the height of summer, air-conditioning costs will escalate, rather as the cost of heating increases in winter in colder climates.
The cost of living in different parts of the city of Dubai varies. For example, in Deira, the cost of accommodation is 27,000 Dhs. up to 65,000 Dhs. per year. The medium range is 30,000 Dhs. which is the common range. Accommodation in Bur Dubai would range from 30,000 to 150,000 Dhs annually. This is usually paid up front.
In Oman, a decent two bedroom apartment in a good area can cost between 200 to 500 OMR per month.
In Bahrain, an unfurnished two bedroom apartment in a good area can cost between 300 and 400 BHD per month.
